Lion's Dice Tiny Leaders Reborn Highlights

Event Photo

It was a packed house today with 10 players joining the store. Samuel, the store's owner has raised the stakes by offering a Secret Lair Teferi's Protection as Prizing for 1st place, and store credit for 2nd/3rd, plus pizza and drinks for all. It worked! 3 new players to the format, joined the store and another one returned to the format after quite a while.

Meta Watch

The popular decks made it to the store, SpiderMan 2099, RogDog, and it's DogBird cousin, Esior.

That said, we did see new commanders on the field, like Tameshi, Reality Architect, Zirda the Dawnwaker.

Game, Set and Match

I played my SpiderMan 2099 deck, it's one of my favorites, in both flavor and play-style. My first round was against Ghatto's Cat Deck. His army of life-gaining cats with counters was scary, but I prepared my SpiderMan deck to fight off against RogDog and Rending Volley works for both cats and dogs. Won this 2-0 by dealing with cats, one at a time.

Second round was against Proxyneta's Evereth deck. We've battled before, so I somewhat knew how his deck worked. His Nuka-Cola Vending Machine / Academy Manufactor combo meant almost certain-loss if he managed to pull it off, so I bolted his Academy as soon as it hit the ground, and secured the 2-0.

Third round was against VillArtic's You Shall Not Cast Dogbird Deck. It certainly lived up to it's name, with cards like K-9, Mark I, Flowering of the White Tree and Esior, Wardwing Familiar making it impossibly expensive to target his creatures. Fortunately for me, I only needed to target myself, and Spidey dealt ~18 damage in one go thanks to a well-timed Wild Ride, equipped with Cori-Steel Cutter, and sending his end-of-turn shenanigans straight to the opponent. Another 2-0 for the night.

Last round was against Exilius' RogDog deck. This was the match I was looking forward to the most, as I had modified the deck in preparation to it, with extra removal meant specific for the dog. And all that preparation was for naught, as game 1, I had to mulligan down to 4 due to really bad hands, but the Clout of the Dominus in hand, and 3 lands was all I'd need to win. As soon as the Spider hit the board, and I tried to Clout it, he Eroded it. Afterwards, I drew only lands for like 3 turns and lost. Game 2 went slightly better, but the RogDog's strong start, plus his combination of Sneak with the nearly-unblockable Rograkkh meant I took a ton of damage, very quickly and lost. Exilius offered that I could have played things differently on the last turn by playing SpiderMan from the Command Zone, but alas, I didn't think of it at the time, and so, my winstreak was ended.

Highlights and Summary

I roped in a friend to play my Oops all Bugs Grist Deck. There was no way he'd lose as long as he got lucky on the bug pulls. He lost. Hoping he'll be back next month, this time with a "real" deck.

After the prizing was done, we cashed in our rewards for boosters, and the true winner of the night surfaced when Exilius used his store credit to open SpiderMan boosters, and cracked a Soul Stone, valued at ~135 USD, a full art Multiversal Passage, and more. Holy hell, what a way to end the night. <3 Event Photo
