Meta Watch
It was a nice Saturday, with Lion's Dice reopening the store at a new location and 5 of us gathering to play.
We had VillaArtic try out Ghyrson, Fer with his Thalia deck, and I was back with Ivy.
We also had Chepe participate with his Liliana Discard deck, Red with his Syr Vandam and Lion Dice's owner joining us by borrowing one of Chepe's decks, Baral Chief of Compliance.
Match Ups
My first round was against Chepe and his Liliana Discard. I was really looking forward to this match as we've mostly only played in Multiplayer Tiny and I didn't know how I'd really do 1 v 1 against a discard deck. I did about as good as I expected, which is, not very. A quick 0-2 left me thinking all match "I should've played Grist" instead.
The Waste Nots and the dozens of ways to discard my hand and kill the creatures I had left me unable to really do much.
Everything is used by Waste Not
My second round was against NiceAcorn with the Baral deck he borrowed from Chepe, so you could almost say I faced Chepe twice. Fortunately for me, that deck was mostly focused on making the opponent draw, and not much else? There were turns where I was discarding 3-4 cards despite playing lands and creatures... that's how much draw I was doing per turn. The game ended quickly, with a 2-0 on my side.
My third round was against Red, who I hadn't seen in months. He brought a Syr Vondam deck, which mostly focused on exiling my board (and keeping it there), with some nasty lockdowns combining Out of Time and The Pandorica, but I somehow still managed to deal enough damage to take the 2-0 home.
And thus, the tournament ended.
I was left wanting for more, so Red and I faced off with my Grist deck, in a few casual matches, which as I had hoped, did rather well, rather quickly.
